On June 7, 2022, the list of undergraduate subjects to be developed with first-class status at the national and provincial level was announced by the Ministry of Education. ShanghaiTech achieved its very first undergraduate subject to be awarded the national level first-class status: Computer Science and Technology. Three more subjects were awarded the Shanghai city (provincial) level first-class status: Biology Science, Materials Science and Engineering, and Electronic and Information Engineering. This results in a total of 4 Shanghai city level first-class subjects, the first of which was Physics, named in the development list of the year 2019, which means nearly half of the undergraduate subjects have now achieved distinction at the national or city level.
As a newly-established, novel research university of less than ten years, ShanghaiTech has indeed made remarkable achievements in subject development and recognition by the society, demonstrating that its development in different subject areas has entered the fast lane.
