Training of large models with an ever higher amount of parameters will dramatically change the way how datacenters are built and operated. We see a strong increase in power demand on every level from processor to rack to the entire datacenter. In this contribution we will share our views on future datacenter architectures and demonstrate solutions for all relevant power conversion stages from Grid to Core.

BIO of the speaker:Gerald Deboy is an IEEE Senior Member and, as of April 2023, a Fellow at Infineon Technologies Austria AG in Villach, Austria, where he heads the System Innovation Group. He played a pivotal role in the development and commercialization of superjunction MOSFET technology—a breakthrough that overcame silicon’s long-standing tradeoff between on-state resistance and breakdown voltage in high-voltage power devices. Under his leadership, Infineon launched CoolMOS in 1998, the world’s first commercial superjunction product, which reduced power losses by up to fivefold and revolutionized energy efficiency in power electronics. This innovation, rooted in earlier patents by David Coe and advanced theoretically by Tatsuhiko Fujihira, has since enabled massive global energy savings—estimated at over 3.4 trillion kWh—in applications ranging from consumer electronics to electric vehicle charging. Deboy’s contributions have cemented superjunction technology as the industry standard in high-voltage switching converters and continue to drive progress in sustainable and efficient power systems worldwide.
