Erli is an Associate Professor in University of Birmingham. After the PhD research on rare-earth metals (2012, Yaofeng Chen group, SIOC) and postdoctoral research on actinide metals (2012-2019, Steve Liddle group, Nottingham & Manchester), Erli started his independent career at Newcastle University, switching his focus to alkali metals. He joined Birmingham in 2024. He serves in the Advisory Board of RSC Mechanochemistry. To date, Erli has published 59 papers (h-index 27, >2,000 citations), 2 book chapters and 1 patent.

讲座摘要:
Despite their long history, ubiquitous natural presence (e.g., NaCl) and widespread applications in synthetic chemistry (e.g., nBuLi), our understanding of alkali metal chemistry is far from well-developed. Herein, we are reporting new frontiers in this field:
1. Metal identity-dependent versatile reactivity patterns: Li vs Na. How would you think organosodium complexes react differently compared with their organolithium cousins? Here we will demonstrate the first “sodium-only” reactivity.
2. Unusual oxidation state group-1 metal complexes. Herein we will demonstrate two classes of unusual oxidation state of group-1 metal complexes, both exist in every modern chemistry textbook as curiosities, but never been synthesized in an accessible manner until our recent work: (1) free-electron complexes, i.e., electride; and (2) sodium at -1 oxidation state, i.e., sodide.
