Recently, ShanghaiTech held its 2nd Workshop on Interface Science and Catalysis (WISC-2025) which was jointly organized by the School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST) and the Center for Transformative Science. The workshop was co-chaired by SPST Professors Liu Zhi, Hu Peijun, and Shen Wenjie.
Executive Vice President Yin Jie delivered the opening address, noting that since its founding, ShanghaiTech has built internationally influential research platforms in pivotal fields across energy and environment, materials science, life science, and information science. He highlighted that research in interface science and catalysis plays a foundational and strategic role in addressing major national needs, including energy transition, green chemical engineering, clean manufacturing, and climate change mitigation. ShanghaiTech looks forward to using this workshop as an opportunity to further promote interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, and enhance international exchange and cooperation.
The workshop focused on frontier research in interface science and catalysis, with particular emphasis on topics spanning interfacial catalytic mechanisms, electrochemical characterization at liquid–solid interfaces, dynamic catalysis, fundamental catalytic theory and modeling, and AI-empowered application.
Nearly 30 globally leading experts and renowned scholars in interface science and catalysis were invited to give their talks at the workshop, covering topics ranging from the evolution of catalyst surface microstructures, the development of in-situ interfacial monitoring techniques, to cross-scale coupling mechanisms. These talks provided important insights for promoting research in interface science and catalysis.
