Organic molecules are the art of carbon, revealing chemistry’s beauty in 3D. Carbon chains form frameworks, chirality shapes structure, and topology sparks innovation. In this blend of logic and creativity, molecular formulas bridge the microscopic and macroscopic worlds.
Mastering molecular structure drawing is a core skill in organic chemistry education. At ShanghaiTech’s School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST), courses like Organic Chemistry series courses emphasize proficiency in ChemDraw—from basic operations to advanced applications, not only consolidates the foundation for chemistry majors but also attracts students from multidisciplinary fields like biology, materials, and computer science. To spark students’ creativity, course assignments were redeveloped into the Molecules Tournament, a competition where students use ChemDraw to create four-panel comics.
Since 2016, the tournament has been held 10 times. In 2019, we launched the first Formula to Four Manga exhibition of outstanding works. Six years later, the second exhibition returns with a new collection, showcasing students’ innovative achievements once again.
These exhibits reflect ShanghaiTech students’ ingenuity, artistic sensitivity, and ability to blend logical thinking with creative expression. Through this immersive display, we invite you to experience our interdisciplinary curriculum and teaching methods—witnessing both students’ boundless creativity and their rigorous academic progress.
