Abstract:
Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is widely used in modern motor drive systems. Recycling braking energy is significant to improve the energy utilization efficiency of the motor drive systems. This presentation aims at introducing a new regenerative braking method, which can produce a relatively large braking torque for the PMSM. This method is implemented by a synchronous switch inductor energy extraction (SSIEE) converter. The SSIEE method utilizes a switched capacitor to compensate for the internal inductance of the PMSM. It keeps the source voltage and current in the same polarity. Such a solution can enhance the energy regeneration capability. Produced braking torque is larger than or comparable to the short-circuit braking (SCB) case. The switching frequency of this converter is twice that of the back electromotive force. Experimental results and theoretical analysis verify the performance of the proposed SSIEE converter.
