China Medical Board Trustee delegation visits ShanghaiTech

On September 10, a delegation from the China Medical Board (CMB), led by CMB Trustee and Board Chair Designate Harvey V. Fineberg, along with President Roger Glass and Executive Vice President Barbara J. Stoll, visited ShanghaiTech University. They were warmly received by Jiang Mianheng, Chair of the University Governing Board, President Feng Donglai and Vice President Jiang Ge.

During the meeting, both parties explored potential opportunities for further cooperation. Feng Donglai highlighted the century-long dedication of CMB to philanthropy in the medical health sector, emphasizing its enduring support for research and education in medicine, nursing, and public health. He hoped that this visit would strengthen mutual understanding and pave the way for deeper collaboration in medical education, research, and talent cultivation. Jiang Ge provided an overview of the university’s mission and development history, including plans for the Shanghai Clinical Trial and Research Center.

 

Harvey V. Fineberg commended the significant achievements ShanghaiTech has made over the past decade and wished the university would continue innovation for the benefit of people in China and around the globe. Roger Glass reiterated CMB’s commitment to collaborating with China and expressed a desire to enhance win-win cooperation between American institutions and Chinese universities, hospitals, and research institutes.

 

Both sides delved into shared interests such as how to establish distinctive research hospitals and transfer scientific discoveries into practical solutions. The meeting was chaired by Zhu Chouwen, Director of Shanghai Clinical Trial and Research Center.

 

Prior to the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by Jiang Ge, visited the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), the iHuman Institute, and the School of Biomedical Engineering (BME). They were also briefed on the construction progress of the Shanghai Clinical Trial and Research Center.
