Abstract:

The first complete and frozen physical layer specification for Rel-15 NR was approved in RAN-P 78 in December, 2017, targeting eMBB and low latency for URLLC. What NR has offered, that is different from or enhanced to LTE, is dedicated for the unique requirements set up for NR in the first place. What is the difference between sub-6GHz and above 6GHz, and how could a unified air-interface be designed for both frequency ranges? How does beam affect NR specification? What is bandwidth part, and why is it so essential in NR? What is TRS, and what is the difference from CRS in LTE? What is CSI enhancement in Rel-15 NR? This brief report will try to answer those questions and shed light upon how technologies are standardized in the commercial product.

Bio:

Dr. Su HUANG received his bachelor’s and doctor’s degree from Tsinghua university in 2010 and 2015, respectively. He has been employed in the Spreadtrum Communication Co. Ltd., for more than 2 years since graduation and now works as a senior communication system engineer and a 3GPP RAN1 delegate. His research area includes standardization of MIMO transmission scheme, CSI acquisition, beam management, and reference signal design. Besides, he is also assisting in the others areas in the physical layer of digital communication, including initial access mechanism, scheduling and HARQ scheme, grant-free UL, NOMA, waveform, and transceiver algorithm design.
