ShanghaiTech rowers sprint toward the finish in the men’s eight race.
In the 2026 Head of Shanghai River Regatta, held on the Suzhou Creek from September 24 to 25, the ShanghaiTech Boat Club won the men’s eight championship in the university category for the third consecutive year, following titles in 2024 and 2025. The mixed eight team finished fourth.
This year’s event featured 500-meter urban sprint races and brought together 72 boats and 518 athletes. Based on its overall performance in indoor rowing, on-water races, and online popularity, the ShanghaiTech team also won the event’s top university honor for the first time.

This marked the sixth consecutive year that the ShanghaiTech team has competed in the regatta. After a month of intensive training before the event, the team demonstrated strong form and teamwork throughout the competition.
The event also marked a first for the ShanghaiTech SHINE Rowing Team, the university’s faculty and staff rowing team, which advanced through the qualifying rounds to compete in the club category. The faculty and student teams competed alongside each other, sharing experience and supporting one another throughout the event.
Since the club was founded, ShanghaiTech has continued to provide it with training facilities and logistical support. The team’s latest achievements reflect the combined efforts of its athletes, coaches, and the broader university community.
