In the final round of the 14th National Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Competition, held at Beijing Normal University from August 10 to 13, Ding Xu ’28 from the School of Physical Science and Technology at ShanghaiTech University won first prize, ranking among the top 5% of 201 finalists.

Before the national final, Ding won the top prize in the Chemistry Experiment category at the 20th Shanghai Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Competition, earning a place in the national final. His achievement not only highlights Ding’s strong academic foundation in chemistry and outstanding experimental skills, but also reflects the school’s commitment to high-quality undergraduate education.
The National Undergraduate Chemistry Experiment Competition is the most prestigious competition of its kind for undergraduate chemistry students in China. The competition traces its origins to 1998 and consists of two stages: provincial selection and the national final. Finalists are selected through a combination of provincial competitions and university invitations. This year’s competition saw a record 201 undergraduates from 155 universities compete in the national final.
