Delegation from Swedish Ministry of Education and Research and Swedish Research Council visits ShanghaiTech University

On June 5, a delegation from the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research and the Swedish Research Council visited ShanghaiTech University to learn about the university’s research strength and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The delegation was led by Katarina Nordqvist, deputy director of the Research Policy Unit of the Swedish Ministry of Education and Research, and included Anne Carnwall, senior research officer at the Department of Collaboration of the Swedish Research Council, and Daniel Ekström, innovation and science counsellor at the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing.

 

The delegation visited Shanghai HIgh repetitioN rate XFEL and Extreme light facility (SHINE), one of China’s major large-scale scientific facilities currently under construction, where researchers introduced its scientific objectives and future applications.

During the visit, the delegation also toured the School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST), the School of Life Science and Technology (SLST), the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies (SIAIS), and the iHuman Institute. Faculty members introduced ongoing research in areas such as RNA biology, immunochemistry, G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), and materials science, highlighting ShanghaiTech’s interdisciplinary approach to scientific discovery.


During the subsequent discussion, both sides exchanged views on potential areas of collaboration, particularly joint research and faculty/student exchanges in the fields of physical sciences, life sciences, and the utilization of large-scale research facilities.

This visit served to deepen the understanding of ShanghaiTech among Swedish higher education and research policy institutions, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation between the two sides in areas of mutual interest.
