Swiss Delegation and ShanghaiTech Discuss Collaboration

Delegates from Swiss universities visited ShanghaiTech on December 15th, headed by Professor Yves Flueckiger, Rector of University of Geneva. Other members included Professor Astrid Kaptijn, Vice Rector of University of Fribourg; Professor Kilian Stoffel, Rector of University of Neuchtel; Professor Stephan Morgenthaler, Dean of International Relations of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne; Professor Ruedi Nuezi, FHNW School of Business of University of Applied Sciences and Aarts Northwest Switzerland as well as Ms. Aude Pacton from SWISSUNIVERSITIES. ShanghaiTech Vice President Gong Jinkang, School of Entrepreneurship and Management Dean May Lee, iHuman Institute Vice Director Professor Liu Zhijie, and other staff and professors also attended the meeting.


Gong outlined the university’s development, especially on international partnerships. Professor Yves Flueckiger introduced the advantages of Swiss universities as open, flexible and advanced higher education institutions. Both sides explored opportunities in terms of student exchange program and joint research and education in life science and business.


The visit built on previous opportunities for exchange with Swiss institutions at ShanghaiTech. In July, ShanghaiTech held a Swiss Day with staff from Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai and swissnex China. Highlights were Brochures about Swiss higher education, traditional Swiss snacks and wonderful performances. Moreover, 34 Integrated Innovation Masters’ degree students from Switzerland’s HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts participated in a one-week exchange program (Summer Academy) with ShanghaiTech students.
