In July 2022, ShanghaiTech University and Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) reached a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a Student Exchange Agreement, signed by Jiang Ge, Vice President of ShanghaiTech, and Pancras Hogendoorn, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors and Dean of LUMC. Both institutions will cooperate in areas of mutual interests, which include exchange of faculty and students, research collaboration, organization of joint academic activities, sharing of teaching and academic materials and other information.

Starting from September 2022, ShanghaiTech students will have the opportunity to study at LUMC for one semester/academic year. LUMC offers three English-taught programs for our students to choose from: Medicine Bachelor, Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences, and LUMC half minors for international students-Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Meanwhile, ShanghaiTech will provide summer research opportunities for LUMC students.

ShanghaiTech has enjoyed a long history of friendly exchanges with LUMC. In 2017, President Jiang Mianheng visited Leiden University and LUMC during his visit to Europe and discussed potential research cooperation and student exchanges. In September 2019, a delegation led by Professor Peter ten Dijke from LUMC visited SIAIS at ShanghaiTech. In the summer of 2019, ShanghaiTech sent four students to participate in the summer programs at LUMC and Leiden Institute of Physics. The signing of the MOU and Student Exchange Agreement will further deepen the collaboration between the two institutions and strengthen the international presence of ShanghaiTech in Europe.
