The first Workshop for Topological Quantum Information (WTQI-2018) was successfully held November 19th to 20th at the School of Physical Science and Technology (SPST) at ShanghaiTech University.

This workshop was co-chaired by Professor Shoucheng Zhang of Stanford University, Professor Yulin Chen of Oxford University ( and Distinguished Adjunct Professor at ShanghaiTech), Professor Jing Wang of Fudan University, and organized by SPST. Focusing on topological quantum materials and topological quantum information, the workshop discussed such hot topics as topological materials, topological theory, spectroscopy and transport characterization, topological superconductivity, quantum computing and electronic/spin devices. A total of 10 plenary talks and 14 invited talks were arranged, attracting nearly 150 scientists and students from ShanghaiTech and other institutions.

ShanghaiTech University Vice President Professor Li Ruxin welcomed the guests and wished the workshop a success. Workshop Co-Chair Professor Yulin Chen introduced the objectives and schedule, and focused on the construction plan of ShanghaiTech Laboratory for Topological Physics.

In the plenary speech sessions, Professor Qikun Xue (Tsinghua University), Professor Laurens Molenkamp (Universität Würzburg), Professor Fuchun Zhang (Kavli Institute for Theoretical Sciences, KITS), Professor Jinfeng Jia (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), Professor Andrei Bernevig (Princeton University), Professor Hong Ding and Professor Jiangping Hu (Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Professor Steve Simon (Oxford University), Professor Yulin Chen and Professor Stuart Parkin (Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle) introduced their recent research progress in topological quantum materials, topological theory and topological devices. In addition, young scholars from overseas and Chinese institutions (including ShanghaiTech), reported their latest achievements, followed by lively discussion. The participants also visited ShanghaiTech Laboratory for Topological Physics.

WTQI-2018 was sponsored by ShanghaiTech and 8 companies. The success of the first workshop has laid a foundation for our university to undertake major projects related to science and technology and carry out scientific research in related fields. In the future, the workshop will be held on an annual basis.
