NTU Academic Leaders Visit ShanghaiTech

On September 6th, Professor Ling San, Provost & Vice President of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and alumna Ms. Ye Hairong, and met with Vice President Li Ruxin. VP Li Ruxin introduced ShanghaiTech’s establishment and the latest developments. As quite a few ShanghaiTech faculty members have study or research experience at NTU they agreed to explore collaboration opportunities based on further communication and interaction.

After the meeting, Professor Ling visited VR Lab at School of Information Science and Technology, and was given a full demonstration of billion pixels immersive browsing and light field virtual object reproduction. He was much impressed that ShanghaiTech undergraduates are given the opportunity to engage in such high-level research projects.

Professor Ling was also given a tour to the university library and the multi-media center.

Nanyang Technological University, a comprehensive university with a focus on both engineering and business in Singapore, is one of the world's leading universities. It enjoys a world-renowned reputation in many fields such as nanomaterials, biomaterials, functional ceramics and polymer materials.

Professor Ling San received BA and MA degrees from University of Cambridge and a PhD in mathematics from UC Berkeley. He was appointed Provost and Vice President (Academic) of NTU in 2018. A Professor of Mathematical Sciences, he joined NTU in April 2005 as the Founding Head of the Division of Mathematical Sciences in theSchool of Physical & Mathematical Sciences (SPMS). Before joining NTU, he spent 13 years at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
