On the 25th anniversary of the cooperation between Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and Chinese Academy of Sciences, President Jiang Mianheng met with Professor Ruth Arnon, President of Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Professor Joshua Jortner, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry of Tel Aviv University and Dr. Meir Zadoc, Executive Director of Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities on October 10th. Professor Zhu Zhiyuan, Chairman of the University Council and President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch also attended the meeting.
President Jiang welcomed the delegation and introduced the establishment and development of ShanghaiTech. He elaborated on the topics of interest on faculty recruitment, admissions and the support from Shanghai Municipal government. Professor Arnon was deeply impressed by the unique nature of ShanghaiTech and wished the university a great success. Professor Arnon hoped that the collaboration between CAS and Israel Academy of Sciences would be developed with ShanghaiTech as well. The delegation also visited ShanghaiTech’s Shanghai Institute of Advanced Immunochemical Studies.
Professor Ruth Arnon is an internationally renowned immunologist, and was the Vice President of Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. She has made significant contributions to the fields of vaccine development, cancer research and to the study of parasitic diseases.
