The MacArthur Foundation announced 24 new fellows early on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Professor Yang Peidong, Founding Dean of School of Physical Science and Technology at ShanghaiTech, won a Genius Grant for his contribution to the development of renewable energy. He was the only recipient of of Chinese descendent in this year’s field of MacArthur fellows..
Established in 1981, The MacArthur Fellows Program awards stipends of $625,000 over five years to talented individuals who have shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction.
This is the second time Professor Yang has been honored this month. He received the World Outstanding Chinese Award on September 23rd.
