Big Data has become an international fad in the technical world despite that most people have little idea what it really means. In this talk, I will examine the concept of Big Data from both theoretical and practical aspect. The models and algorithms will be discussed. We point out the central role it plays in the realization of Internet of Thing, Intelligent City, Security, Search Engine, and Machine Learning.  We also show why the current main stream computational and programming tool used in is not adequate in supporting Big Data, and give the solution to the problem.
